Lovell and Brown appointed to TCA Grade Cricket Committee

Former T.U.C.C. players Paul Lovell and Ray Brown have been appointed to the TCA Grade Cricket Committee.

The TCA conducted an extensive review of grade cricket during the off-season. One of the recommendations of the TCA Grade Review was the abolition of the TCA Pennant Committee and the establishment of an independent body to govern grade cricket. As such, the TCA Grade Cricket Committee has been formed. The committee consists of three (3) members appointed by the TCA Board, an independent chairman and two (2) delegates to represent TCA clubs.

Paul has been appointed as one of the TCA club representatives. Paul was a member of the TCA Grade Cricket Review committee and, as such, has a good understanding of the views held by all parties involved in TCA grade cricket. His appointment is for two years. Ray has been appointed as the independent chairman.

Paul played for the T.U.C.C. from 1980 until 1990. Paul was highly regarded as an all-rounder for our club. He bowled off-spin and played many valuable innings in the middle order.

In first grade appearances for the club he played 125 innings and amassed 2583 runs at an average of 23.92 with a highest score of 137 not out. He also bowled 954.2 overs and took 88 wickets at an average of 27.83.

He was a member of the 1985/86 and 1986/8 first grade premiership teams, won the T.U.C.C. Cricketer of the Year award in 1988/89 , was a member of the club committee in the 1984/85 season and President for half of the 1986/87 season and for the entire season in 1987/88.

Club legend Ray Brown represented Tasmania, won the TCA Medal, was awarded a Full Blue whilst studying at University, won the T.U.C.C. Cricketer of the Year award, played in four First Grade premierships and is a Life Member of the club. Ray is the all-time leading wicket-taker for the club. He took 452 first grade wickets at an average of 17.97 and scored 3162 runs at an average of 20.40.

Ray was also a strong administrator at the club and served on the committee for many years. He was president of the club for three years and is a former captain and coach of the club.

We congratulate Paul and Ray on their appointments and wish them all the best. Our interests will be well represented on the Grade Cricket Committee.
