Scott Nichols has been named in the Tasmanian Under 17 team which will play in the national championships in Hobart in
January. He is the only representative from our club named in the team.
Scott will be a busy cricketer over the next few months as he will return from the Under 19 championships in time for Christmas and early in the New Year the
Under 17 championships will commence. Straight after the Under 17 championships Scott will embark on the Hutchins cricket trip to Melbourne for 2 weeks and he
will play in the Independent Schools competition as well as the T.C.A. competition for the remainder of the season. On top of all that there is a good chance he will
play finals in both of these competitions. It is just as well he is young and full of energy because it is easy to feel tired just contemplating this packed schedule!
We wish him all the best in all his cricketing endeavours for the remainder of the season

U17 Series News
(As, unfortunately, was the case with the recent Under 19 Championships in Melbourne - the scores are not available on the Cricket Australia website,
despite there being a Tasmanian rep. at every ground 'phoning them in at every interval and end of play (and hassling the scorers throughout the day!).
If you're trying to find the scores on the C.A. website hit "Series" (left menu bar) and the "Underage something".
Any scores/reports below are courtesy of the scorers themselves, who have found the time to contact us every evening. We may even be able to bring you a
report or two. Their assistance will be recognised throughout the remainder of this article.
(Rd. 1 v. Northern Territory).
After a shaky start at Lindisfarne Tassie recovered from 5/108 shortly after lunch to reach 8/293 at stumps on day 1. Of the top order only Matthew Battle and Matty
Wade contributed significantly with 47 and 42 respectively. Scooter was bowled for 2. Kingborough's Jack Philp, batting at 8, top scored with 51 and aided by
Trent Graham (42) and Richard Howell (36) took Tassie to a handy total.
Tassie declared overnight and were well placed for a win, having N.T. 8/106 when rain stopped play. Matthew Battle took 2-13 and Matthew Woods 2-28.
Scooter only bowled 2 overs (0-8).
Looks like a repeat of the Under 19's - weather may well intervene unfortunately. At least the DL method won't have to be employed but, if the first three games
of the Carnival end up as draws, it will be interesting to see how the final positions are determined!
Other Scores:
N.S.W. 9/278 defeated. Vic. 87 and 0/7
W.A. 6/337 drew with Qld. 6/71
S.A. 207 drew with A.C.T. 8/156
The rain hit all matches at about 2.30 pm.
Apparently W.A. batted on for 4 overs - should have looked at the weather forecast!
(Rd. 2 v. ACT).
In a rain affected match, Tassie won the toss and batted. Resuming overnight at 4/120 they declared at 7/212. Top scorers were Jonathan Wells (68),
Jack Philp (27) and Brady Jones (27*).
The ACT were dismissed for 186, the only multiple wicket taker being Toby West with with 2-27.
Next games are on the 8th. and 9th., Tassie taking on S.A. who also have 6 points. The ACT and NT are both on zero.
Other Scores:
N.T. 123 lost to S.A. 5/316
Victotia 6/267 defeated W.A 164
Qld. 7/186 dec. lost to N.S.W. 7/210
(Rd. 3 v. South Australia).
After a delayed start due to rain, Tassie managed only 159 in a 'must win' game. The mainstay of the batting was Clarence's Jonathon Wells with 82. Scooter
mahaged only 1 from 11 balls
In reply S.A. were in trouble at 7/114 but a lower order fightback saw them pass the target without losing another wicket.
The result sees Tassie take on N.T. in the next round.
Other Scores:
Qld. 8/200 dec. and 4/26 lost to Victoria 9/281 dec.
ACT 203 lost to N.T.
NSW 9/291 dec. defeated W.A. 177
(Rd. 4 v. Northern Territory).
NT batted first on day 1 of the game on a day when the temperature would hit the low 30's; amazing after the days we've had so far.
Tassie dismissed their opponents shortly after tea for 155; Matthew Woods taking the bowling honours with 4-24 and our own Scott Nichols defying rumours of a
serious knee injury which would preclude him from bowling taking 1-15!
In reply Tassie had reached 2-42 at stumps.
The temperature had dropped but the wind increased dramitacally on day 2. Tassie inched past their target for the loss of 5 wickets and their innings finally was
called off at 8/219. Kingborough's Brady Jones top scored with 89 and Scooter scored 13.
Given the amazingly complicated formula (and you thought Duckworth-Lewis was brainful) for the last round Tassie could end up 5th.
Other Scores:
NSW defeated S.A.
Victoria defeated. W.A.
Qld. 253 lost to ACT 260
(Rd. 5 v. South Australia).
In the final game of the series Tassie won the toss and sent SA in to bat. They would have skittled the oposition for 73 had the SA skipper not scored a century, so
Tassie finally dismissed them for 173. Scooter was back to his best with the ball taking 4-9 off 11 overs (including their centurian).
By the end of the day Tassie were in dire straits, only being able to muster 8/85 in reply; Scoots top scoring with 27 off 48 balls.
Tassie's end came quickly on day 2 when they were all out for 99. SA batted out the day, finishing on 9/251. Scooter didn't get a wicket but did have the dubious
honour of being ejected from the attack by the umpires for bowling beamers at their no. 10 batsman!
So Tassie finished 5th.
Other Scores:
NSW 368 defeated Victoria 193
A.C.T. 162 lost to W.A. 286
Qld. 90 and 2/144 lost to N.T. 213
The final standings were:
New South Wales
Victoria
Western Australia
South Australia
Tasmania
A.C.T.
Northern Territory
Queensland
Congratulations to Clarence's (and Tassie's) Matthew Wells who was named 'Player of the Series' and earned a week in England with the Aussie team during the
forthcoming Ashes tour.
