A trio of Uni. players help Tassie to a 1-day win against Queensland.

With the normal dearth of Grade cricket over the holiday period it was off to Bellerive to watch Tassie take on Queensland in the ING cup. Tassie desparately needed a win to head to the top end of the table and a crowd of just over 1500 braved the cool temperatures and gale force winds. It wasn't a Grade game so at least it didn't rain!

For the Uni. faithful present it was almost like watching a Uni. game anyway, with the Club having three representatives in the Tassie 12. Not a bad percentage! And, as it turned out, they all had exceptional games: Hilfy opened (and closed) the bowling taking 2-30 (including yorking Andy Bichel first ball) and fielded as he always does; Nessie took 2-35 in a tight spell of ten straight, took a good catch and produced a run-out with a direct hit from long on; Tim Paine kept well (only one bye which was acknowledged by brother Nick in the outer!), scored his first half century for Tassie and featured in a century partnership with Michael Bevan to get Tassie to within 5 runs of victory.

A pleasant day I'd assume for Tim's and Hilfy's parents watching the action as well as the large number of Uni. players and supporters present.

Tassie won with three balls remaining. No match report (it wasn't a Uni. game after all) but some pictures. There are probably better ones on the website but the guys are wearing different coloured clothing this time!

Hilfy sends down an in-swinger.

Nessie's metronomical action displayed again.

Xavier Doherty (according to the shirt) behind the stumps.

Congratulations all around to Hilf after bowling Bichel.

Painey begins his assault of the Queensland bowling.

A scorching cover drive for four...

.. and a deft late cut for another couple.

Down on one knee for a sweep...

.. and monstering this one to long on.

This ball is about to be pulled to the sqaure leg boundary.

Another 'charge' and the ball heads to long gone.

The long-awaited shot of Tim raising his bat was, unfortunately, missed! The guy scores his half century and helps ensure Tassie's victory, the crowd are on their feet applauding and good old Tim just raises his bat for half a second! Maybe next time.
