DAVID BARTLETT
Member for Denison
UNI TO BENEFIT FROM SCOREBOARD FACELIFT
The State Government is helping put the score on the board for the Tasmania University Cricket Club.
Denison MHA David Bartlett presented the TUCC with a cheque on behalf of the Government for $3,880 to refurbish the scoreboard at the University Oval.
Mr Bartlett made the presentation after the staging of a Twenty20 match at the oval between University and North Hobart.
Mr Bartlett is the Number One ticketholder at North Hobart.
The grant is provided under the State Government's Facilities Grants Program, which is distributing a total of more than $1.1 million across the State in 2005-06.
The program provides grants for new sport and recreation facilities, or to upgrade existing facilities.
The University club is one of 58 community sport and recreation bodies to receive grants this financial year.
Mr Bartlett said the TUCC was a good example of the many organisations around the State which provided community activities.
"Many of these clubs rely on the hard work and dedication of volunteers, and I am delighted that the Government is able to assist them through this program."
Grants are provided on a dollar for dollar basis up to a maximum of $200,000.
Funds come from the State Government's Community Support Levy, which is funded from the profits of gaming machines in hotels and clubs.
The State Government will provide more than $2.2 million in grants in 2005-06 to Tasmanian organisations for sport and recreation purposes through five programs - the Facilities Grants Program; Community Grants Program; State Grants Program; National Championships Program; and the Trainee Subsidy Program.

President Mike Graham-Smith gladly accepts the cheque from David Bartlett
(even wearing his North Hobart cap).
Asset Management Services at the University of Tasmania will cover the remaining costs associated with the project.
Work is expected to start soon on the upgrade of the scoreboard and two of our much-loved characters around the club, John Perry (builder) and Josh Bean (painter), will take responsibility for delivering a quality finish to this project.
The scoreboard was built at the same time as the clubrooms, in the mid 1980s, and is well overdue for some attention.
