Prize Money and Trophy on offer for the Player of the Finals.
Katie and Paul McNamara from Healthsense Pharmacies (New Norfolk) have again kindly donated $500 prize money for the best players in the finals series. The best player in the finals series will receive $250 prize money and the perpetual trophy. The second best player will receive $150 and the third best player will receive $100. All prizes and the perpetual trophy will be presented at the T.U.C.C. Annual Dinner.
Players from all grades involved in the finals are eligible to win. All players involved in the finals will vote on the best players using a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 voting system (5 regarded as the best player) at the end of each final. The captains of each team will disseminate the voting sheets at the end of each final. Players are encouraged to think carefully before voting. The player with the highest number of votes, as voted by their team mates, at the end of the finals series will win the award for the Best Player of the Finals. The judges reserve the right to the final decision on the winner.
Brad Thomas and Stuart Alexander were joint winners and Joe Hoang won the third prize last season. Andy Matthews took out the award for the Best Player of the Finals in the 2003/2004 season. Unfortunately, injury appears to have robbed Andy Matthews and Stuart Alexander of the chance of winning the award again. The thirds are out of the finals race anyway but Stuart will not be able to press for higher honours this season as he was hit in the jaw by a full toss last Saturday and broke his jaw in two places. His jaw was wired up on Monday night. The tragedy of the situation is that he was wearing a helmet! Andy sustained a broken hand a few weeks ago and has not recovered from the injury as yet.
With the firsts out of finals contention only Joe Hoang has a chance of appearing on the winner’s list for the second time. Given his current form he would be a good bet to do just that.
We thank Paul and Katie for making this award possible as it gives all players a bit more incentive to do well in the finals series.
