Vintage Cricket in Barbados next year - an update.

The Club receives regular emails from the organising committee of the Vintage Cricket carnival - the next to be held in Barbados from October 29th. to November 4th. 2006. From discussions with the organisers it appears that there have been a total of zero participants from the TUCC (or Tasmania actually) in previous carnivals!

So below are a few paragraphs from the emails:

What Kept You So Long?....

I was fortunate enough to make a recent visit to Barbados-my first, to meet local cricket personalities and to check out cricket clubs and grounds all preparing to host the Vintage Cricket Carnival in October next year.
The young man who escorted us to our hotel room enquired if it was our first visit to his wonderful home land and when we replied in the affirmative, he looked incredulous and asked "What kept you so long?"
And now after a delightful few days experiencing all that we could fit of the Barbados experience, we knew that the answer to the question was "We didn't know how good it is!" and now we cannot wait to get back.
The cricket clubs are great, the hospitality is wonderful, the people are friendly and welcoming, the weather sensational and the cricket people of Barbados are just waiting to host players, supporters and officials heading to the Vintage Cricket Carnival.
For those who have been to Barbados before and returning and for those making the trip for the first time, be prepared for the question "What kept you so long?"
Barbados is one of the best decisions we've ever made - make it one of yours as well.
The full version of the newsletter has more detail and you can go straight to it from here>>.

Stop Press: Andrew Ferrington of Moreland Moonee Valley Cricket Association has a group of Victorians coming to Barbados and need to top up their team....Andrew writes.."any unattached Victorians interested in participating, please don't hesitate to pass on my name/details or phone number (0411 157 558 OR 03 9347 1177)
Let me say how much my partner and I are looking forward to travelling to Barbados. I think this is the first time she has ever paid any attention to the goings on in my world of cricket!" If you are looking for a team to join why not give Andrew a call-sounds like a great group.

Currently we have teams in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Houston, Atlanta and Miami able to host teams travelling from Australia on their way to the Carnival in Barbados.
The cricketing fraternity of Buenos Aires in Argentina have offered to host teams who would like to travel to the Caribbean through South America.
There is the opportunity for extra games in Bahamas, Cayman Islands, St Kitts and a number of other Caribbean destinations as well as additional games available in Barbados.

Please don't worry about age grouping - there are two "grades" - one for 35 to 44 year olds (plus those that are older and who believe they can still mix it) and the other for 45 years up. Within the age groupings teams are sorted into competitive (not many of them), semi-competitive and once were competitive (a popular and enjoyable grouping). Don't need to worry about Joel Garner and Geoff Lawson - Joel played well within the spirit of Vintage Cricket and Geoff strained a hamstring and bowled off spin (well) - his main concern seemed to be that the strain may have effected his golf swing on the "rest" days.

and the line that got this article's writer interested - Umpires and scorers will always be made welcome and can take a full part in the Carnival.

There's a website for complete information and newsletters galore for those interested. Good tour packages are avialable. Maybe there are enough former Uni. players to form a team, or other Tasmanian players would like to make up the numbers? The team at least has a scorer interested!
