Mozzie Buzzes in - Dr. Phil Jauncey speaks to Uni. players.
Dr Phil Jauncey, or Mozzie as he is well known by many of the elite athletes he deals with, spoke to our players for almost two hours last night. Without giving too many of his secrets away he stripped back many of the misconceptions and theories associated with sports psychology and simplified the mental approach (or lack thereof) that should be adopted to maximise a cricketer’s chances of success in playing the game.
Dr Jauncey is most certainly a man of many talents and wears many different hats. In fact, he officiated at his brother’s wedding as the marriage celebrant on Sunday. His brother, John Jauncey is a current T.U.C.C. committee member and father of one of our former players and current vice patron, Andrew Jauncey. It is John who first suggested that his brother visit the club and made all of the arrangements to ensure that it happened. The club wishes to thank John for all of his hard work in making Dr Jauncey’s visit possible.
The Australian baseball website profile of Dr Phil Jauncey describes him as “...a performance psychologist, keynote speaker and corporate trainer in management, success, communication, marketing, education and sports psychology.”
Dr Jauncey is currently the sports psychologist with the Australian baseball team, the Australian canoeing team, the AFL Brisbane Lions, the Brisbane Broncos rugby league team and the Queensland Bulls cricket team. He is also an on-call consultant with Queensland Rugby League (especially State of Origin), the Queensland Academy of Sport, the Brisbane Basketball Association, Australian Netball and various international athletes. He was the co-ordinating psychologist for the 2004 Australian Athens Olympics team. In recent media reports Andrew Symonds heaped praise on Dr Jauncey for assisting him through some tough times.
Dr Jauncey is a dynamic speaker and had our players captivated for the whole time he spoke. Our players gained a real insight into what is required to perform to optimum levels and we will be able to implement many of his ideas almost immediately. With time our players will improve as cricketers and our team performances will mirror the improved performances of our players.
The club sincerely thanks Dr Jauncey for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to our players.
