The inaugural TUCC Scholarship presented.
Tasmanian cricket legend and former Test batsman David Boon joined University of Tasmania Vice-Chancellor Daryl Le Grew today in presenting an outstanding young Tasmania cricketer with the inaugural Tasmania University Cricket Club scholarship.

The $3000 scholarship was funded through donations from members and supporters of the Tasmanian University Cricket Club and will assist Alex Saunders to offset the cost of studying at university while pursuing his cricketing ambitions.
Saunders, who established his cricketing credentials as an Under 19 State Rep and as a fast bowler for the Riverside Cricket Club, will play for the Tasmania University Cricket Club for the duration of the 2008/2009 season as part of the scholarship,
Saunders, 20, is pursuing a degree in pharmacy at the University of Tasmania.
Professor Le Grew said the University was delighted to be able to offer a new scholarship which supported the academic and sporting talents of a promising student.
"UTAS is committed to offering students a range of opportunities to fulfill their potential and this scholarship is one way of ensuring a student who displays both academic and sporting prowess need not sacrifice one dream in order to pursue the other," he said.
The scholarship was presented to Saunders during a ceremony this morning at the University Club.
The University Foundation and the Tasmania University Cricket Club welcomes further donations to the TUCC Scholarship fund. People who would like to make a donation can download a donation form from the Tasmania University Cricket Club website www.tucc.org.au
