Uni. and North Hobart to vie for the "Di Venuto Cup"

And before those who have been present at the University Oval over the past many years we are not talking about the large blue mug that Enrico has full of coffee before every game!

Tasmania University CC and North Hobart CC both wish to recognise their family's contribution to cricket at both of our clubs. The clubs have proposed to play for the Di Venuto Cup when we meet each other in the TCA Challenge Round. We will have a cup minted and ready for presentation for the next meeting which is Saturday 20th October.

Both our clubs have richer histories for the involvement of the entire Di Venuto family. Further, amateur clubs can very rarely adequately compensate individuals for the efforts made serving the club over many years. To this end, is seems only reasonable for both clubs to honour the Di Venutos each year when we meet in the Challenge Round.

Enrico played for (and is a life member of) the now defunct Geilston Bay Cricket Club which played in the Southern Suburban Competition. He started coaching St Virgils College school teams containing Peter and Michael in the 1980s - very successful teams. Peter and Michael joined the North Hobart Cricket Club as juniors and Enrico got involved with the club.

Reeks was Director of Coaching at North Hobart for 6 seasons from 1989/90 and under his direction the club won a hat-trick of TCA first grade flags (1991/92, 1992/93, 1993/94) and the State Kookaburra Cup title in 1989/90 and 1992/93.

A former Uni. player recalls "I played against Enrico in a second grade match in 1989/90. All I can remember is that he had a great eye and that he savagely cut and pulled/hooked everything - even fuller balls!"

In 1995 Enrico moved to Uni, as coach. Michael returned to North Hobart in 2003/04.

So Enrico - 6 seasons at North Hobart, 3 TCA flags & 2 Kookas; 10 seasons at Uni, 1 TCA flag and 3 Kookas.

Between Enrico, Peter and Michael at North Hobart and Uni. they have 12 TCA premiership medallions and 9 Kookaburra Cup state premiership medallions.

On top of all of this the DiVenuto family have been the hub of social events at both clubs and extremely generous in regularly inviting club members to their homes at Patrick Street, West Hobart and Parrot Place, Tranmere.
