TCA Rules and By-laws changes for 2007/08
Each season the TCA's Grade Cricket Committee, in conjunction with Clubs, Umpires and others, holds a review of current Rules and By-laws. Below are some of
the more important outcomes from the latest review.
Allocation of Points
In two day games a first innings tie and no further result will earn 3 points each (not 4). A tie in one day games will now be worth 3 points also (not 2).
Number of Players in a First Grade Team
Well it's down to 11! If a player is off the ground for more than 8 minutes he'll have to be back on for as long as he was off before he can bowl.
Helmets
First and Second Grade players may now wear only helmets of club colour or white (no State helmets). This may well be expanded to every other team next season.
Scheduled Times of Play
Third Grade and Under 17's will play the same times as First and Second Grades - ie 11.00 - 6.00.
Bowling Limits for Two-day Matches Only. Short-Pitched and High-Pitched Balls
The clubs agreed with changes to conform to the bowling limits set by CA for First Class cricket
One day games
After a lengthy discussion is was decided to introduce 2 Power Plays and Free Hits to 1st and 2nd Grade only in line with CA guidelines.
(Note Subsequent to the meeting CA adopted a further change - In lieu of the existing ruling whereby only the fielding side could determine when the two
Power Plays would be bowled, the batting side captain will have the right to decide when a five-over Power Play will be bowled - the fielding captain retains the
right to decide only one Power Play)
The Bonus Points system as per CA guidelines will be applied to 1st grade One-day limited overs matches only and will apply only to the Kookaburra Cup ladder.
The points will not be included in TCA Club Championship tables.
Statewide Twenty20 Competition
There was a prposal for such a competition involving every cricket club in the State. It's not going to happen.
There were also some administrative changes which will divert more work to the Clubs (and their volunteers). We will have to work out how we can comply -
the fines to be imposed for non-compliance are pretty hefty!
The rest of the stuff is pretty boring but all will be revealed in next season's TCA Hand Book.
