Report (by Andrew Jackett)
(DAY 1).
After making the trek out to Pontville, the boys were keen to impress, especially with the amount of people at the Horse Show next to the Oval. We won the toss, and due to the conditions of the weather and pitch, decided to bowl.
We soon found ourselves in a strong position, early on in the game. Tom Roach and Sam Peacock opened the bowling. There was plenty of cloud coverage, and fortunately no rain came, but these conditions certainly helped our bowlers. The ball was swinging both ways for our openers.
Bowling extremely tightly, the first breakthrough came in the 4th over of the day, with the catch going through to Chris Hevey, from Sam Peacock's bowling. Roachie claimed the 2nd wicket, and continued to baffle the batsmen with huge inswingers.
After 11 overs, we had Glenorchy 2/22. Hughy 'Keg' Stevens was now brought on from one end, to keep his end tight, with Oli Robinson holding down the other end. Keg picked up a wicket in his 4th over, to have Glenorchy 3/43. Oli wasn't giving anything away off his bowling, finishing with 0/7 off his 5 overs.
Keg continued at the far end, but after drinks, Heves took off the pads and put himself on to bowl. This was an inspired decision, as he surprised everyone by beating the bat several times. His spell included 11 overs, 6 maidens, and unfortunately didn't pick up a wicket, but had figures of 0/15.
Hayden Kitchener picked up the 4th wicket, which took a while to get, but was soon followed by a flurry of wickets when Roachie was brought back on for his 2nd spell. He picked up a further 3 wickets, and was on a hat-trick, leaving Glenorchy at 7/102 off 42 overs. Tom finished with figures of 4/15 off 12 overs, with 6 maidens, an excellent display of pace bowling.
It was left up to Sam Peacock to clean up the tail, with Hayden chipping in with his 2nd wicket. Sam finished with 3/30, and Hayden returned 2/9 off 5 overs, bowling tight but attacking, all day, Glenorchy struggled to 129 off 54 overs, leaving us 33 overs in the day to bat.
Things started very well for us, with Roachie continuing a fine day, opening the batting with Keg. These two batted sensibly against the new ball, as they moved to 41. Unfortunately, Roachie was dismissed, in the 11th over. This brought Ellis Perry to the crease, however, he didn't last very long, being removed with the score on 2/46.
Still with 40 minutes to play, there was plenty of work to be done. Heves joined Keg out in the middle. Although not scoring quickly, the two batsmen ensured they were there at the end of the day, with Keg on 36* and Heves on 12*.
We will be looking to, firstly, gain 1st innings points, and if we do well enough, we will hopefully be in a good position for an outright victory, but there is still plenty to be done.
(DAY 2). Match abandoned due to rain.
