The 17's were out to consolidate there place in the top 2 and hopefully edge a bit closer to top spot. The boys were bowling on what looked to be a ground with a fair few runs in it if you stayed in a while. Fenna and Roachy opened the bowling and did so very well, getting some good early break throughs with Lindifarne being 4 for 34 at the end of their opening spells. Ash Winter came on and bowled tight picking up the one wicket with Robbie Jubb getting the big break through, as well as bowling a very tight spell of 6 overs 2 for 11. At drinks the decision was made that some slower bowling could be the trick; with this stand-in playing coach Heves took the ball, picking up a wicket with his third ball after skipper Robbie Jubb held onto a sharp chance in the grippers. Heves and Kegg then copped a bit of stick with Heves finishing with figures of 6 overs 1 for 15. Lindisfarne got away a little bit but Roachy and Fenna came back and finished off the tail with Lindisfarne being rolled for 145. Probably 40 more than they should have made however, with a good batting line up and a quick outfield, the boys were confident that the target was achievable. Skipper Jubb and Tommy Roach headed out to start the Uni Cubs batting assault with Roachy hitting the ball well until he was fired on 16. The Cubs 1 for 24 after 9, Hevey batting at 3 joined the skipper in the middle as the two went about setting up a partnership. Jubb started hitting the ball well and Heves, after starting off slowly and watchfully, started to hit the ball cleanly to the boudary. The two hit regular boundaries and were starting to put the match out of Lindisfarnes hands. Jubb brought up a well made 50 but when on 62 tried to take two to the man on the fence and was found just short with the skipper's and Heves partnership falling just short of 100, putting on 98 off 110 balls. Heves moved to 47 with the target being just 4 more hit the ball straight down a deepish sqaure leg's throat bringing Rob Sim to the crease with Wints. The two easily took the Cubs to the target reaching it in the 32 over. A good win and a good warm up for the finals. Carn the Cubs. |
