Report (by Andrew Jackett)
Uni won the toss and elected to bat, on a pitch which proved later to be fairly inconsistent.
Hayden Kitchener and Robert Jubb opened the batting. The lack of bounce in the pitch trapped Hayden in front in the second over, as well as troubling the rest of the top 4 batsmen, leaving the score at 4/38 early on. Looking in trouble, Tom Roach (60) and Sam Lambert (28) batted excellently, showing their experience and running hard between the wickets. They put on 74 for the 5th wicket. The lower order chipped in with some good hitting enabling us to reach 9/154 from 40 overs, an excellent score on this pitch given our poor start.
We started well in the field with Tom Roach taking a wicket in the first over. However, this was the only wicket for a long time. Mark Fenton took the breakthrough wicket, sparking a middle order collapse led by Sam Lambert picking up 3 crucial wickets. However, it was our inability to bowl consistent lines that proved our downfall, bowling 22 wides in all. Our intensity and enthusiasm was great all day, but Glenorchy managed to get the winning runs in the second last over, 7 wickets down.
