Report (by Nick Bonner)
Pre-Game
A big trek to KGV oval for the Uni Scoobies and everyone was on time.
The toss was won by Nick Bonner who elected to bat on an oldish, maybe 4th day wicket that was expected to play some tricks later in the day.
Casually, the umpires were introduced to all the players before the days proceedings were to get underway (plus one point).
Game
Andy Matthews and James Jubb opened the batting and looked quite solid until Jubb was dismissed caught & bowled to opposition captain Scott McKellar. Tim Steven came and went, as did Matty Lister. Matthews saw out the opening bowlers to make a fine 33.
Paul Hudson (53) and James Kingston Jnr (43) combined for an excellent partnership of 71 before Hudson was dismissed. Mike Holingsworth (54) and Kingston combined for another partnership to see the team to over the 200 run mark for the first time this season. After Hollingsworth put one down the throat of deep mid-wicket, Heath Barwin (20) put the finishing touches on a fine Uni Scoobies innings that closed nine down for 247 off 50 overs.
Nick Bonner opened the bowling with Mike Hollingsworth and after two overs Glenorchy were 2/16, with one wicket each. After some very solid hitting from one particular Glenorchy opener, Sam Perkins was introduced into the attack and the result was immediate with two quick wickets. Drinks were taken after 20 overs with Glenorchy comfortable at 4/84.
Spinners Paul Hudson and James Kingston Jnr entered the attacked and they choked the Glenorchy run flow in the crucial 20-30 over period, and yielded two wickets, one to Hudson and a team lifting runout also by Hudson. The pressure created in this period resulted in the wickets that followed in the 30-40 over period as Glenorchy found themselves well behind the required run rate. In this period Bonner (3/33) took two and Barwin (1/24) bowling leg spin took one. At the 40 over mark, Glenorchy were not too comfortable at 9/134.
Perkins and Hollingsworth were asked to finish off and it took only three overs for Hollingsworth to hit the stumps and Glenorchy were bowled out for 140.
Post-Game
The Scoobies entered the rooms victorious and unleashed the first full version of the Uni Club Song in the 2nds for quite some time. Some work on the song is still required but the guys will have it learnt by next week.
