Report (by Nick Bonner)
Pre-Game
A trek to the TCA ground for the Uni Scoobies and everyone was on time, well almost everyone.
The toss was won by Nick Bonner who elected to bat on a very hot and windy day, and a reasonable batting wicket.
Casually, the umpires were introduced to all the players before the days proceedings were to get underway (plus one point, as usual).
Game
Nick Grubb and Andy Matthews opened the batting and looked quite solid until Andy (9) was dismissed with the score on 19.
For the second week in a row, first-drop came and went, this time it was James Jubb (2).
Matty Lister (27) was confident at the crease, playing a lead role in a 46 run partnership with Nick Grubb (45), before being caught behind reaching like a sick dog to a ball that would have otherwise been called a wide.
Wickets continued to fall consistently, but the team was confident going to tea at 6/133 with J.G. Kingston and Mike Hollingsworth batting. As per our game plan, after tea, Mike and James demoralised the tired North Hobart players by batting out the session and making a further 122 runs. The Scoobies finished day 1, 6/255 from 86 overs.
Day 2 started well, with everyone on time and a brisk warmup. The team decided to bat on to reach 300 runs, and to further tire the North Hobart players after a tough day in the field the day before.
Mike and James set off again and looked in complete control from ball one. Mike chased a short one, skied it and was caught out for a well-made 89. James (75) was bowled an over later with the score on 299.
That brought Andrew "ask and I will deliver" Kibbey to the crease. As the name provokes, captain Nick Bonner asked the Kibstar to "get a single and we're out of here..." And so, first ball, the Kibstar delivered the single the captain wanted and the innings was declared at 8/300.
Nick Bonner opened the bowling with Mike Hollingsworth and after eight overs NHCC were 2/17, with one wicket each.
Andrew "ask and I will deliver" Kibbey and Andrew Kerr entered the attack for a short spell before the lunch break. Again, captain Bonner made a request to the Kibstar for 4 overs, 2 maidens, 1/4. And the Kibstar delivered…4 overs, 2 maidens, 1/3. Nice work. At lunch NHCC were 3/31 after 15 overs.
Post lunch, Hollingsworth and Bonner opened up again, which yielded one wicket. Then the successful bowling partnership of Paul Hudson and J.G. Kingston entered the attack. The proceeding 12 overs put immense pressure on NHCC as the partnership bowled really well, and the team supported with some good fielding. The spell yielded three wickets and a team-lifting runout. The Scoobies love their run outs!
Post Huddo/Kingo, the Kibstar took one more to go to tea with NHCC at 8/125 after 45 overs.
After tea Bonner took a wicket first ball and then another in his next over to bowl out the NHCC for 127 in 47 overs.
The Scoobies decided to bowl again and had NHCC 3/66 off 29 overs by stumps. The highlight of the short innings was the bowling partnership between Huddo and Kingo who took 2/19 off 13 overs between them.
Post-Game
The Scoobies entered the rooms victorious and unleashed the second full version of the Uni Club Song. It was a much better effort this week.
