(DAY 1). Uni won the toss and batted.  We got off to a good, quick start with our openers Courtney Winter and Chris Morrison both reaching double figures. A mini-collapse, losing both openers and Ollie and Pat for ducks, saw us teetering at 4-26. Kevin Jubb and Tom Ritchie steadied the ship, and the partnership blossomed to 82. Kev was very aggressive with powerful drives, whereas Tom swept and pulled to score many boundaries.
 After Kev was dismissed, we had a series of useful partnerships, particularly with Tom and Alex Bigg putting on 40 for the last wicket. A score of 213 was a very good effort - though had we batted out our full 65 overs (we managed 47) it's likely Tom may have gone on to score a ton.
In a useful one-hour session with the ball we made some useful inroads. Ollie and Kev bowled particularly well, both picking up 2 wickets. Uni definitely on top after day 1, with New Town at 4-58. |
