Chris Morrison 28 |
Ed Salter 3-21 |
Beating the top of the tabel Clarence was on all of our minds and we felt confident after beating them at the start of the season. Losing the toss, Clarence decided to send the yellow, red and black in to set them a total to beat. Unfortunatly the innings never took off. With opener Kevin Jubb dismissed early for only 5 it looked bad from the start. Courtney was next in but also was bowled on 5 as well. Tommy Arnold came in to get back in touch with the batting side of cricket. He did that well and tried to consolidate a reasnoble partnership with Chris but that wasn't to be. Chris was caught 3 balls before drinks on 28 which sent in Tom Richie. After drinks Tom Arnold left the pitch after giving the bowler a nice catch on 12 after batting well. Ed Salter faced 2 balls before being bowled, Pat Bigg was out 2 overs later, Rick De Palio was also bowled for 1. New guy Gus went in with Tom Richie still at the crease. Batting out the overs was the main thing and Tom and Gus did it well. Tom batted well making 18*. University after 40 overs were on a very low but kind of defendable target of 108. Ed Salter And Tommy Arnold took the new ball and opened the bowling. Both of them were definitely the highlight of the bowling, picking up 4 wickets between them. In Tom's second over he picked up the opener with a ripper of a catch by Rick De Palio. Not long after Ed Salter saw the other opener walk back to the sheds being caught behind. It didn't take long for another wicket for Ed after a ball was smashed to point only to be caught at diving full strech by Chris Morrison. Ed picked up another wicket 3 overs later and Clarence looked to be in alot of trouble. Courtney Winter came on and also picked up a wicket in his second over which saw Clarence at 5-34 after 12 overs. New guy Gus had a couple of overs and bowled with succses picking up 1 wicket. During his spell Clarence unfortunatly overtook our score in the 31st over. Costing us the game was the sloppy fielding and the drop catches. And hopefully our batting can pick up next week. Unlucky boys but we shall have a win this week. |
