Report (by Andrew Jackett)

Playing Clarence in the U/17s was a battle of 2nd v 3rd, with the winner to claim 2nd spot. We lost the toss, and Clarence opted to bat on what looked like a very good batting wicket.

Fortunately for us, Clarence didn't capitalise on this and with Tom Howells and Josh Parker opening the bowling, Clarence lost two wickets early. Clarence never really got into the game, as our bowlers consistently bowled exceptional areas. Sam Peacock, Sam Lambert, Rob Jubb and Ash Winter capitalised on a good start from the openers, as they each picked up two wickets.

Clarence was bowled out for a painfully slow 82, and it was now our turn to make the runs.

With Rob Sim and Hugh Stevens opening the batting we got off to a good start. The pitch had a bit of inconsistent bounce, but didn't do too much to trouble our batsmen. Both openers were removed with score around 30, bringing Ash Winter, and wicketkeeper, Chris Hevey to the wicket. Ash didn't last too long, but Chris Hevey moved his score along to 31. He and Rob Jubb produced a good partnership of 35, but both were dismissed just before the end. Ellis Perry and Sam Lambert saw the team through to the end, and while we did not bat aggressively, we batted well enough to score 5/82 off 35 overs.

An excellent result for Uni, resulting in the 3rd of 4 victories against the always-strong Clarence, something no other club has achieved in a while.
