Report (by Steve Kerr).

A week late, a one day game rather than two days but the season for the Twos finally got underway. Barely scraping eleven players (thanks to the belated arrival of the last to be coerced into playing!) the new skipper, 'Special" Mulcahy won the toss and maybe surprisingly given Uni.s apparent historic rules elected to invite Glenorchy to bat. Given the weather forecast and the gathering clouds it could only be seen as a massive vote of confidence in the bowling line-up on offer.

The second surprise of the day (to some spectators and players alike) was the news that Nick Grubb (with a total of three wickets in five seasons with the club) was to be K's opening bowling partner! An inspired peice of captaincy as Grubby got the first wicket to fall as a result of a great diving catch to Paine (N) in the covers.

Special bowled his normal tight line and length, Grubby bowled six overs and Glenorchy were motoring along at about 1.5 runs per. over. The late Kibster had a run and picked up a wicket between glasses of water and Glenorchy did increase the run rate for a couple of overs but the introduction of Huddo from the Uni. end soon dried those up. Bars came on from the river end and got a wicket with his first ball - a juggling catch by Remi behind the stumps. As the run rate climbed to two an over a combination of more fine leg spin bowling from Bars and three self-inflicted run outs by the Pies saw wickets fall at very regular intervals.

Huddo bowled his ten overs straight and finished with the incredible figures of 10-6-4-0!! Kermit finished off the innings, Glenorchy were all out for 98 in the 48th. over. and those spectators (and fielders?) still awake were hoping to see some more enterprising batting in the second session!

Grubby opened the batting, with Andy, as well as the bowling. Kermit continued to refine his finest of leg glances and was caught behind to be replaced by 'China' Lister and the pair pushed the score along steadily without any dramas. Grubby was out with the score in the 30s bringing 'China' Paine to the crease. At this point the report could well descend into a morass of puns (or worse) but I'd suggest that these two refine their nicknames to differentiate themselves. The tempo increased - they're both hard-hitting, aggressive batsmen - until 'China' P was adjudged to be out with not many runs needed.

Huddo joined 'China' L and the game was as good as over. With barely 30 overs faced the Twos were victorious and an early trip home was the reward for all. Matty Lister ended not out and was by far the best batsman to be seen on the day; some truly thunderous drives and pulls mixed with controlled self-discipline - a fine innings.

And finally congratulations to the trainee 'Stan' who's performance at the drinks breaks was impeccable. A new career obviously beckons.
