Report (by Kieron Mulcahy):

Another weekend of forecast rain so second grade arrived at Queenborough to take on the Sharks with the same uncertainty of a start as in recent weeks. A quick inspection of the deck (after the sharks tried to hide it from us by putting the hessian on) found a hard but very green and weedy wicket. Greenkeeper Paine was very keen to determine what sort of weeds had actually been used for the deck, as he had never seen them before.

The plan was clear, win the toss - bowl. Losing the toss (again) was of no consequence because the opposing skipper (if he had a goatee, he'd be Elliott Goblett) decided to bat anyway which we thought was a bit bemusing at the time but as it turned out, was nowhere near the wierdest thing to happen as the day progressed. After a rain interuppted warmup where the Uni were boys were required to put the covers on and off a few times (isn't that the home team's responsibility), play eventually got under way about 15 minutes late. Gordo and K struggled early with the slippery conditions, making many requests to the Sharks players and administration to get some sawdust. However, they appeared to be too busy sitting on their butts to have organised any so after 15 minutes, it was decided that Uni would supply the sawdust (isn't that the home team's responsibility). A few overs later, an lbw and bowled had the sharks in some strife at 2/20. The batsmen's 'play and miss ratio' was doing very nicely as debutant Joe and the Kibster were introduced, each claiming a wicket to have the home side 4/60 around lunch.

Much of the same continued after lunch - bowlers Dare, Matthews, Kerr bowling well...play and miss ratio still going strong...homeside unable to organise drinks even though the umpires requested them 6 overs in a row...Sharks batsmen making comments that "their grandmother could take wickets on this deck - and she's dead" (could they BE any funnier). At 4/130 at tea, we needed to keep perservering and hopefully the luck would eventually turn our way.

After tea and another short rain interuption where we put the covers on (isn't that the home team's responsibility), it was decided that China would be brought into the attack, as all other bowlers had seemingly been bowling too well to take any wickets. 12 overs later, after the Sharks had lost 6/13 to be all out for 153, he walked from the field with 4/12 from 6.1 overs, which left us 9 overs to see out the day's play. We were hoping to get through to stumps without losing a wicket, but after Jubby got a terrible decision, Kerm got bowled and China did something that no one else on the day was good enough to do (get an edge) we were staring down the barrel at 3/34. Jacko was looking the goods though on 17*.

Day 2 arrived and we were still confident that a win was on the cards. However the loss of Jacko and Gordo put us in an early hole. But Grubby was batting well and after Remi walked in a smashed a pull shot to the fence, things were looking up. If only Remi hadn't been caught behind next ball!! At 8/104, Grubby teamed up with the Kibster and they battled their way beyond 110...120...130...140, before Burger was caught at cover for a very patient and well compiled 50. At 9/148 and with possibly the worst batsmen ever seen in TCA cricket striding to the crease, anything was possible. The score was pushed to 150 before Kibs (torn hamstring and all) edged one to slip.

The Sharks batted for a second time and again resumed their love affair with playing and missing. Highlight of the second innings has to be the rogering that a woman in a near-by house was receiving....boy could she scream!!! Other highlights were Kerm bowling 10 overs and taking 3/10 (see A. Matthews for details of every ball - including a dropped catch by N Grubb) and China picking up another couple to take his match earnings to 6.

Same result as against Nth Hobart - another heartbreaking loss after showing a heap of G&D to put us in a winning position.
