Report (by Kieron Mulcahy):

2ND GRADE STAKE CLAIM AS UNI'S BEST SCRAPDOGS.

After 2 heartbreaking losses in previous weeks, the 2nd Grade boys ventured over the river to Lindisfarne to try and get their season back on track and stay in touch with the top 4. A quick inspection revealed a slightly "pre-loved" green but rock hard strip. After winning the toss, the skipper decided to stick with his "bowl first before christmas" theory and put the lightning boys in. The batting line up we had was sure to be able to chase down any total that was put in their path anyway.

After 18 overs, the skipper was wondering whether he had made the right decision to bowl first, as the lightning had riden their luck (french cuts, lofted drives just out of reach, edges over gully for 4) all the way to 0/90. The "through the infield = 4 runs" outfield wasn't helping matters either. Ahh, but us Uni boys LOVE a fight. Joe, after his first 3 overs went for 13, bowled his next 7 for 6 runs and also chipped in with a wicket. Meanwhile at the other end, Kerm (The Treasurer) was taking care of the economy and also mixing in some rather aggressive sledging, taking the vital wickets of their openers. Huddo was then introduced and kept the brakes on, taking wickets at regular intervals during his spell, eventually ending up with 3/38. At 5/150 from 37, we were back in it, with Steele - the only acknowledged batsmen, still at the crease. Scooter was brought back on from the other end with immediate success, China Snr snaring catch number 2. Steele was looking pretty good before his batting partner put a kebab stick up his butthole, turned him over and put him on the BBQ, run out number 1 for China Snr. Shortly after, run out # 2 for China Snr...another ridiculous attempt by the batsmen to run well between wickets, run out by half a pitch. Scooter then claimed his 2nd, Huddo got the last and we had bowled them out for 195 in the 50th over - a brilliant effort.

From there the task was simple, especially as the RR Rqd was less than 4. What we didn't count on was being 4/28 from 20 overs and staring down the barrel of needing to maintain 6 an over for 30 overs. But if I've told you once, I've told you a twice...The Uni 2's LOVE a fight! First, Huddo and Scooter bludgeoned 70 in 11 overs before the latter was bowled. China Snr joined Huddo and the pair continued to despatch the bowling to all parts, Huddo bringing up his 50 and China doing the same a short time later with a front full pull shot for 6. A few overs later and with the RR Rqd still hovering around 6, Huddo tickled one to the keeper, out for a brilliant 71. And so, with about 20 required from as many balls, Cowboy Cheeseburger needed to work the 1's and let the established batsmen bring us home. Nah...bugger that. Burger's innings of 1,2,4,6,4 did the trick with almost 2 overs to spare.

1,2,3...the Uni boys are we - and boy did we belt it out!! One of the best wins that any of us have been a part of and sets us up nicely for the Grand Final replay next week.
