(Day 1). No play. But, yet again, this scribe must ask why? Arriving at the ground an hour before the scheduled start of play it was obvious that the game could not possibly start on time. A previously precipitous night had ensured a suitably soggy outfield, but the sun was shining and the super-sopper was at work. The general consensus was an early lunch and the game to get underway at 1 pm. Personally I thought that 3.00 was much more likely and so headed off to watch another game. I had the pleasure of watching a wonderful display of batting but, feeling somewhat guilty for not getting back to take over the bar duties I returned just before 4.00 and found no-one in sight! The game had been called off at 12.30! The wicket, square and outfield were just the same the next day for the Threes - they played in identical conditions to those avalable the afternoon before! At 3.00 the game could have been underway with an extra 30 minutes! With, thankfully, an extra hours play available next week, there may be a game - the first for New Town this year (Day 2). |
