Clarence batted first and didn't start particularly well with a few early wickets falling. There was a short sign of resistance from their number 2, however wickets seemed to fall at steady intervals and they were bowled out for 101 (only having 10 players) within 34.5 overs. Matthew Chapman and Jimmy Hortle were the main wicket takers, taking 2 a piece. Both bowled with good control and discipline. Ryan Patmore, Larry Owen and B. Read all chipped in with one wicket a piece and a few run outs contributed for the rest of Clarences demise. Overall, the fielding and bowling was very good and University maintained a high standard. In reply University lost the early wicket of Jimmy Hortle, for 1 run. However, Hugh Burgess (50 not out) and Mark Barrenger 49 steadied the innings and took us home. There were some lusty blows from Mark and very sensible batting from Hugh. Ryan came in after Mark was out caught and played an Andrew Symmonds like cameo innings and bludgeoned a quick 29 before being run out. It was then agreed to conclude the match and University walked away with a very comfortable and confident win. |
