Mark Fenton 3-23 Rhett Lockyear 3-27 Jo Hoang 2-14 |
Graeme Cunningham 64 Matt Lister 22 |
New Town batted first in damp conditions, which our opening pair of Matt Drury and Mark Fenton exploited well. Both bowled tight lines, Matty in particular, though it was Fenna who got the break through with a caught and bowled off a slower one and was on a hat trick thanks to a brilliant catch by Grubby. Fenna picked up another one to leave New Town reeling. New Town recovered to 50-3 before Josh Parker and Uni's Mr. Reliable Joey Hoang bowled extremely tightly to reduce New Town's run rate and build pressure. Joey grabbed two vital wickets in the middle part to finish with remarkable one-day figures of 2-14 (5 of which were no balls). Flick and dog carried on the good work to leave New Town with an under-par total of 137, dog ending with impressive figures of 3 for 27, while Flick took one and Spud returned to take the tenth, Fenna returned figures of 3-23. Uni started their reply poorly, losing Rhett and Ned cheaply. China and Ritchie did the recovery work and put on vital runs before China got one which kept low and was bowled for 22. Jacko then joined the "Ritchie show" as our senior player began to bring out the trademark drives off the back foot and slog sweeps over mid-wicket. The partnership ended when Jacko gloved one to the keeper. Ritchie batted superbly for 64 and looked set to end it in style until he was caught behind and the traditional (I'm told) Uni collapse began. Grubby was bowled and Boony skied one which brought Uni's second most senior player, Josh Bean, and Fenna together. These brought about a recovery from 122-7 to 134. Fenna was bowled by the spinner and Beany hit one straight to deep mid-on. In a tense finish Spud smashed one through straight mid-wicket for 4 to give Uni a 1 wicket win and a third consecutive win in the Kookaburra Cup. |
