A great night and excellent team work by the boys....Hugh Johnston was elected captain and won the toss...electing to bat... Tim and Oscar opened with Tim staying in until the 21st ball gaining 1 run..but batted very well.. Oscar made the most of his balls being bowled on his sixth ball great effort tho..Daniel came in and retired on 4 runs...The coach couldn't get the boys padded up fast enough as we were being bowled very quickly...Hugh came in with fire in his eyes...hitting a 4 on his second ball..blocking a lot and using his feet very well. just about to retire with 2 balls in hand..only to be stumped on 7...You should be so proud of yourself Hugh...once again the twins paired up with Oliver being bowled for 0....bringing Will in.. lasting until his last ball then being bowled for 2... then Jock hit a ( should have been a 6 ) only to be caught by Nrth Hbrt...at this stage it didn't look good but the boys where happy receiving their freddo cheering on the next batter.. not being too gloomed by their sudden dismissal...!! James Maddock came up to face the opposition lasting the distance with our highest score 10 hitting one great 4...great job James...at this stage we weren't looking too good..but.. the smell of both teams BBQs and the laughing of the boys made it all worth while...our over's where coming to an end with what was to be our last batsman Selywn.. face the doom.. being caught leaving him with 3 runs...the last 2...Josh and Tom padded up only to walk out.. Tom faced 2 balls.. then our time was up....7/49.... Bad luck boys.. we will get revenge in the field...or will we...? Does the coach have a plan...mmm ? Answer to that was NO....just go out ... do your best.. and hope for wickets...!!! Josh bowled gaining the first wicket ..ok we have a chance I was thinking as the winds got up and I took shelter in the car... ( Do you think we could play indoor cricket next year....?) I watched as the boys field with great anticipation.. will we ..or won't we win.. do the freddos really work ?.....the boys where just happy and playing to the best of their ability...fielding with team spirit...Tom and Jock took the other two wickets.. leaving Hugh catching a top ball...but at the end of the day.. Nrth Hobart where too strong... the empire calling the game after the 18th over as they where 4/50 and the icicles' where forming on the boys so thought it was best to end...I was very proud of the boys as they took batting advice from Sam ..all going out there with the best intentions...and at the end of the day ..it's not who 'WINS' the game...but how you play it..... I have seen a lot of our boys play for the second season and they have all improved so much ..you are all a great bunch of boys!! ... once again.. thankyou to all the parents who come.. help...and cook the BBQ... Thankyou... The player of the match I award the giant freddo to is...the captain..Hugh Johnston for his great improvement in all areas of cricket...well done Hugh... |
