The Uni U 13 team travelled to New Norfolk on a drizzly morning and were surprised to find the weather much better at Tynwald Park than in Hobart. Liam O'Donovan (captain for the day) lost the toss and we bowled. With only 9 players it was difficult to cover the field and the New Norfolk batsmen were very well drilled and played some big shots. The slightly damp conditions also made the ball quite slippery. Despite only claiming one wicket our boys bowled very well throughout the 25 overs only giving up 15 wides/no balls, a vast improvement on the first game and one which the opposition coach commented on as one of the best he had seen. Richard Maddock was the wicket taker and he, Sam House and Joseph Miller were the pick of the bowlers with Johnny Cooper keeping wickets very well in the second part of the innings. New Norfolk ended their innings with 127 runs. The New Norfolk bowlers were very good, with a couple of very fast bowlers and a good young leg spinner. Our openers, Tim Hooks and Joseph Miller got us off to a steady start before Miller was out. The next four batsmen occupied the crease for some time but found scoring difficult against a tight attack. Ben Wisbey was the pick of the batsmen with some excellent shots behind square leg and Liam O'Donovan did well to stay at the crease for a few overs and manage to avoid a few bouncers. The boys were doing well for the first 17 overs, but our last 4 wickets fell very quickly and we were all out for 44. Hudson Warmouth remained not out and had batted well during his innings. On the whole, while statistically a big loss, the boys never stopped trying and with two men down and the quality of the opposition, a number of positives emerged from the game and I hope the boys learned a lot from a very well prepared opposition team.
