Report (by John Cherry):

(Day 1). Uni lost three quick wickets and were 3 for 5 after two overs.

Unfortunately it set the tone of the day for us. Joseph Miller batted well for 23 but we could not get any sort of partnership happening until the six wicket when Tom Loftus (captain) and James Cherry put on 21.

Tom was ninth out and scored an excellent 18.

The last wicket with Joseph Phillips and Kogo Fujiki put on 17, with Kogo scoring 8 and Joseph not out on 5.

A disappointing day overall with the bat against some steady bowling, and also importantly with us failing to bat out the full 50 overs.

Sth Hobart got of to a good start with both openers playing solid cricket.

Although only a small target was set, Uni is capable of winning the game if we bowl and field as well as we have done in previous games.

(Day 2). Sandy Bay resumed on 0 for 24.

University bowled and fielded particularly well on a very hot day and at one stage had Sandy Bay 7 for 79 after 30 overs.

An eighth wicket partnership for the opposition saw them pass the required total.

The scores were not a true reflection on the game with Uni being right in the game until the 35th over.

The fact that Sandy Bay had four U/15 players playing for them on the first day, without approaching University, had a bearing on the game.

Overall, all the University players got behind their captain Johnny Cooper and played a fantasic game and should be proud of their efforts.
