(Day 1). Uni captain Kogo won the toss and sent Sth Hobart - Sandy Bay in to bat, on a very warm day. Uni started well and had the opposition at 4 for 17 after six overs. Gradually Sth Hob. batted themselves back into the game with steady play. Uni toiled well as the temperature crept up into the low 30s, the bowling and fielding was excellent given the difficult conditions. Sth Hobart finished with all out for 120 off 44 overs. Fortunately for our openers we did not have sufficient time to bat today. Best bowling figures Tim 3 for 12 off 4 overs Liam 2 for 0 off 2 overs, (Having kept for the first half) Joseph M 2 for 9 off 4 overs If the boys play to their capabilities we should be able to reach the target next week. (Day 2). Uni required 121 runs to win off the 50 overs. The day was ideal for cricket after the heat of last weekend. The grass was damp and boggy in places making the task of scoring boundaries difficult for the first hour or so. Unfortunately we didn't make the runs being all out 89 with 16 overs to spare. It was a disappointing result with only Kogo (captain for the game) really getting settled. He top scored with 16 runs. Tom L (6) started well but was run out when he looked like he was getting on top of the bowling. Joseph P batted well for a quick 10. A special mention should be made of the fact that he "walked" when he edged behind to the keeper. It was at a crucial point in the game as well. Richard chipped in with a confident 7 runs but was out first ball after the break. |
