Report (by Ned Murray):

(Day1). University won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Charlie Haward and Sam Robinson looked solid for 5 overs before some excellent swing bowling reduced us to 4-4. This brought U13 youngster Liam O'Donovan to the crease with Angus Davison. Liam gave Angus tremendous support in stand of 31, Liam eventually playing round a straight one and was bowled. James Cherry (another U13 playing above himself) joined Angus and put on a stand of 52. Angus paced his innings well, starting slowly and then picking off the bad balls as they came. James batted very maturely - taking singles to begin with and gradually began to strike 4s as the opportunity arose. Both batsmen made 27, James ending not out as the last 2 wickets fell for 1 run.

Kingborough started their innings aggressively with their opening pair putting on 70 before Liam O'Donovan clean bowled Waiss-Gates for 25. University then struggled as another handy partnership took Kingborough past 150. Some tight spells from Liam and skipper Chalerm Tuantab pegged Kingborough back; Charlie Haward showed his wicket-taking ability (removing the key wicket of Fordham) and Liam took another wicket. Angus Davison bowled a good spell and deservedly took the wicket of Bates just before the close. Kingborough ended the day in the strong position of 5-240 with 2 batsmen in and set.

(Day 2). Despite being 150 runs behind, the boys never let their heads drop, bowling and fielding well to take the last 5 Kingborough wickets for 70 runs, led by Chalerm who bowled an excellent spell and led by example. Liam O'Donovan joined in by taking 2 further wickets to end up with superb figures of 4-43. Harry Virs chipped in at the end to remove Chandler for 1. Kingborough ended on 310.

In our next hit James Cherry was promoted to open and put on 15 with partner Sam Johnson before he was well caught by Tolman at slip. Sam Johnson played some excellent shots (in particular 3 cut shots for 4) and looked in good touch, only to be out unluckily caught down the leg side at short fine leg for 30. Charlie Haward had given him good support (making 13*) before the lunch break. Unfortunately the rain started (and never stopped) and so the decision was made to call off the rest of the day's play. Day 2 proved to be far more successful for University and it was a great shame it was cut short early.

Despite the apparent heavy loss on first innings, there were many positives to come out of this match and there is a lot to work with for the game against South Hobart/Sandy Bay next week.
