Tom Richie 59 Oliver Robinson 28 Chris Hensby 28 |
Brad Lagerewskij 2-23 |
Well, this was my big opportunity as coach with John Perry away for the weekend. Our total of 173 was pretty competitive, with Tom Ritchie and Oliver Robinson putting on another big second wicket stand of 87, to follow the 99 run partnership last week. Aggressive running and good shot selection was again the hallmark, and provided a real lead for our other players. Chris Hensby showed good common sense to maintain the momentum, and Ryan Patmore played two great shots from consecutive balls near the end. Again, a sign of good improvement. Our batsmen are starting to grow in confidence and understand that the simple things such as good running between wickets and working the ball into the gaps can bring results. We need to keep developing this side of our game, as we are not a team of big hitters. With 173 in the bank, there was great cause for optimism. After a tremendous spell of fast bowling from Brad Lagerewskij, and good support from Jack Young, Glenorchy was 4/74 after 23 overs. Another quick wicket and we could crack them. Unfortunately the intensity dropped and catches went down. Despite this, the team showed great spirit. I could not have asked for any more effort. Work hard during the week, particularly on the bowling, and our second win is not far away. |
