SHSB : 6-160

TUCC : 7-161

Report (by John Cherry):

Uni won the toss and Chalerm sent South Hobart-Sandy Bay in to bat on an overcast, windy day with a damp out field.

Our opening bowlers Henry and Chalerm bowled tightly restricting Sth Hobart to be 0 for 15 off 8 overs. However wickets were proving difficult to come by, with both their openers batting sensibly.

We didn't take a wicket until the 18th over when Henry came back on. From then on we fielded and bowled reasonably tightly taking wickets at regular intervals. South Hobart finished with 6 for 160, with Henry and James taking 2 wickets each. Sam House took 2 good catches, a couple of dropped catches cost us but it would be fair to say that catching was difficult given the damp cold conditions and strong wind.

We gave away 20 runs in no balls and wides and it is something we can all work on in the coming games, but overall the bowling was good, especially considering the conditions, (damp ball) and that it was our first game.

The score of 160 was achievable, but our batsmen were going to have to apply themselves and play well.

Our openers Henry and Sam Hunnibell started positively and had 8 runs off the first 2 overs when Sam was unfortunately run out. Chalerm was solid and with Henry looked to be getting on top of the bowlers until Henry was caught.

Richard batted very aggressively and with Chalerm put on 23 until Chalerm was caught, (unfortunately after breaking his bat and using a borrowed one).

Richard and Sven then continued on aggressively but both were dismissed, and the score on 49 (five wickets down after only 12 overs).

Keiran and James batted sensibly taking the score to 107 (off 27 overs), putting us within striking distance, when an unfortunate mix up saw Keiran run out.

Sensible batting from Owen saw the score to 133 until he was bowled in the 35th over.

The pressure was on Tom, and he and James batted well; we needed 6 runs off the last over. The men were equal to the task and the winning run was scored off the last ball of the day.

It was a very good batting performance with all players contributing. It was great to see the belief in each other, and the aggressive running (apart from 2 run outs).

Without getting too carried away with ourselves it was an exciting game, with every player either in the field or with the bat playing a part in a great win.
