Sorell won the toss and sent Uni in to bat on a pitch that had been damaged by a recent paint spill at Queenswalk. We lost two quick wickets with Angus falling to a dubious lbw decision. James and Chalerm looked to be geting on top of the bowling until a mix up caused Chalerm to be run out with the score on 27. Richard and James then built a good partnership with Richard being the aggressor and after 15 overs had the score to 60. James copped a nasty delivery which took him on the left hand. Batting with difficulty, he failed to get on to a pull shot and was caught at midwicket. From then on Uni lost regular wickets with only Richard troubling the scorer. He finished with a well compiled 20, being 7th out. We were all out for 83 off 26 overs which was disappointing especially since we couldn't bat the overs out. Sorell then batted very sensibly and despite Liam bowling one of the openers for 1 never really looked in any trouble. They passed the Uni score in the 16th over. From then on their batsman enjoyed the lack of pressure and racked up the runs. All our bowlers apart from James and Liam were costly. In general we bowled too short and as mentioned before we never put any pressure on the batsman. Our fielding was a highlight with everyone putting in and trying their hardest despite the result. Liam took a difficult catch at deep mid wicket and Sven who had fielded deperately all day took a very good catch at mid off. Thomas in his first game as wicketkeeper showed some promise in the 20 overs he was behind the stumps. Chalerm as captain never stopped trying and his bowling changes were well thought out. A disappointing result, but our boys never stopped trying and really supported each other in a fantastic manner. |
