Season 2007/08
Under 12 Twilight v. New Town, 5/12/07
University played New Town at Lower Queenborough, and captain for the game, Daniel M won the toss and elected to bat. We finished with 81 for the loss of 5 wickets.
The highlight of the game was Daniel's fine innings of 46 n.o. It was the highest score for the game and the highest individual score of any player in any game that we have been involved in.
He played superbly, pulling and sweeping anything that was short of a length. His six cleared the boundary by at least 10 metres. He was abley supported by Daniel W, Alastair and Matthew G.
New Town batted sensibly and looked to be well on the way to achieving our score easily.
Our boys stuck to their task well and some fine bowling and excellent fielding put the brakes on.
With 2 overs to go New Town required 2 runs to win. Great bowling by Caleb and Brayden restricted the batsmen and New Town just got past our score winning by 5 runs. Matthew C took 2 wickets and Brayden 1.
A highlight was the excellent outfield catch by Caleb at deep fine leg on the boundary from a full blooded pull shot. He got into position beautifully and never looked like missing it.
It is certainly the catch of the season (so far).
A fantastic effort from all the boys especially considering we were two fielders down.
Under 12 Twilight v. Lindisfarne, 28/11/07
Uni won the toss and elected to bat on a very pleasant evening at Lindisfarne.
We batted very well during our innings and we only lost one wicket reaching a total of 57. 7 of our batsmen had to retire, and our top score of 9 was shared by several batsman, Alistair, Tom, Matthew G and Matthew C.
The Lindisfarne batting was very strong and one of their opening batsman scored 20 off the first over.
Our boys didn't give up and tried very hard with their bowling and fielding, but the opposition was just too good on the day.
Best bowling was Daniel W with 2 wickets.
Under 12 Twilight v. Lauderdale, 21/11/07
The game was played at Rokeby Village Green on a pleasant warm evening.
Lauderdale won the toss and elected to bat. Uni welcomed two new players,
Josie and Emily for their first games. Both girls played enthusiastically
and showed plenty of potential.
Our bowling and fielding has improved dramatically over the weeks with less
wides, catches being taken and good fielding. We restricted Lauderdale to
83 which was a tremendous effort. All bowlers bowled accurately and were
rewarded with good figures.
Unfortunately we lost early wickets and it put the pressure on our middle
order. Nevertheless the middle and lower order responded beautifully and we
only just failed in our run chase, by 15 runs.
We are improving each week with the boys and now girls, playing the game
in a great spirit.
Two highlights of the game were Alistair's catch and Josie batting through,
and having to retire.
Under 12 Twilight v. New Town Green, 31/10/07
New Town won the toss and sent Uni in to bat on a beautiful spring evening. The New Town bowling was accurate but most of the boys managed to get a start.
We managed to take the singles but the boundaries and 2s were proving difficult.
We finished with 8 for 33, a pretty good effort considering it was our first game of the season.
Best batting - Matthew G 7, Caleb 7, Matthew C no 5
Our bowling was tight with all fielders supporting them admirably. The boys never gave up and managed to keep New Town to 93. A good effort considering that New Town had been playing together for a number of years.
Wickets were taken by - Caleb, James, Daniel W, Daniel M
A very good effort, with the boys playing the game in a good spirit and supporting each other.
